Final Report of Wall of Student Faces

Final development of Wall of Student Faces provides the latest attributes of user interface which combining the students video and their profile. This web page is a new approach of university to reach students and their parents. Furthermore, this web application page had been support by good user interface design.

In our experiment, we compared two different walls of faces web sites. Oxford 100 Wall of Faces is a web site that belongs to Oxford University where anybody can view the web site anywhere and it is free. Meanwhile, Wall of Student Faces contains three categories of students from the University Technology Malaysia. Our experimentation consist of comparison between the wall of faces web sites in terms of ease of finding and viewing a video in a collection, and its difficulty of navigation between one pages or videos to another.

Both web sites provide users with the ability to view the videos as a group of thumbnails. The concept been used by both web sites in order to play the video are also same; where user needs to click any of the thumbnails video and the video will be displayed at the center of the wall. However, the web page is differed in the way the web page managed the interface and also the way it provided collection navigation.

We hypothesize that it will be easier to navigate and browse through Students Wall of Faces than Oxford 100 Wall of Faces. Users will be able to finish the tasks more quickly using Students Wall of Faces. We feel that users will be able to finish the tasks more quickly because Students Wall of Faces consists of a simple interface where the usage of radio button and links are very little. Users will not get confuse in Students Wall of Faces, whereas in Oxford 100 Wall of Faces, users may easily get confused about which button or link they should use because there are a lot of link that provided in that web site.

CONCLUSION

Based on the experiment conducted, the web page of Wall of Student Faces did not provide the best user interface design. A few of the participants thinks that the web page needed to improve for example application of using graphics and color. This is because by selecting the right user interface will control the usability.

On the other hand, three of the participants commented that Walls of Student Faces is easy to learn and the participant can remember how to use the web application after few times using it. Despite that, two of the participants think that they can complete the tasks given in minimal time. The web page also used simple language and also displayed the needed information only to prevent from user get confuse.

In addition, user satisfaction is subjective. We cannot satisfy the entire user’s requirement.
